COVID-19 SCHOOL POLICY

We are excited to be in person for the school year, but in order to keep everyone safe, we highly encourage all who are able to, to get fully vaccinated against Covid-19.   Our staff is fully vaccinated, and all are highly encouraged to get their booster doses as soon as eligible. As of 3/2/22, following NYS guidelines and in accordance with the Syosset Central School District policy, masks are now optional for those who are in our building. We ask for kindness and respect towards those who choose to mask, as well as for those who choose not to mask. Please use your own judgement as to the masking of your child(ren) based on your family's risk and vulnerability to Covid and other respiratory illnesses.  However, if anyone is under quarantine due to close contact with someone who has Covid, well-fitting masks are absolutely required to be worn until 10 days have passed from the last date of exposure.

Please do not send your child to school if they are not feeling well.  If your child has symptoms that include any of the following: fever, nasal congestion, cough, headache, sore throat, body or muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell, please keep them home and discuss next steps with your primary care provider.  If your child has any such symptoms, they may return to religious school only with a negative PCR test OR an alternative diagnosis in writing from their primary care provider.

If a student shows signs of illness during the day, he/she will be isolated from others and parents will be contacted to pick up their student immediately.

In the event that a student or staff member tests positive for Covid-19:
1. The student must be isolated for a minimum of 10 days, and can return to school if their symptoms have improved, and they do not require the use of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours.  A negative Covid-19 test is NOT required to return to school after previously testing positive, as long as the full 10-day isolation period is observed and symptoms are improved.
2.  If a staff member is diagnosed with Covid-19, either asymptomatic with a positive test, or with symptoms, they will follow current CDC/NYSDOH guidance.
3. WJC will clean and disinfect all areas used by the student or staff member who is infected such as offices, bathrooms, classrooms, and other common areas.
4. WJC will notify all parents and guardians in the event that a student or staff member tests positive for Covid-19.
5.  If a child is sent home for symptoms consistent with Covid-19, he/she must receive a negative PCR test or have an alternate diagnosis in writing from their primary care provider before returning to school.
6. In the event that a staff member or student has a household member with Covid-19, or has sustained contact with someone that has or is suspected to have Covid-19, the student/staff member must follow current CDC/NYSDOH quarantine protocols. Please note these protocols are currently dependent upon vaccination status.  WJC reserves the right to implement stricter quarantine protocols on a case-by-case basis based on the vulnerability and vaccination status of our students.

If a student or staff member is diagnosed with Covid-19:
Please notify Fran Pearlman immediately at fpearlman@woodburyjc.org or by phone at 516-496-9100.
For administrative and custodial staff: you also must notify Michelle Komatsu immediately at mkomatsu@woodburyjc.org or by phone at 516-496-9100.

In the event that a student/staff member is ill, but is not suspected of having Covid-19:
1. The student/staff member must be symptom and fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medicine before returning to school.
2. The student/staff member will be required to provide WJC with a note from their health care provider confirming that they are medically cleared to return to school.

Please seek your own healthcare provider’s advice and availability of testing to determine if you have Covid-19 for the safety and security of your child, your family, and the entire WJC community.
